Joy Lynn Carlsen
Aspiring Conservator, Artist and Small Business Owner
Since 2015 I have been in pursuit of becoming a conservator of art and cultural heritage. I have spent four years interning with several conservators in cultural heritage and art objects, outdoor sculpture, paper, and photographs. In 2019 I completed a one-year post-graduate Diploma course in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage at the University of Lincoln in the UK. I graduated with Distinction at the top of my class and was awarded the School of History and Heritage prize for academic achievement. The program included conservation ethics, theories, materials, methods of documentation, hands-on benchwork, and preventive conservation practices.  I also spent the summer of 2017 at the Poggio Civitate archaeological dig in Murlo, Italy, taking part in the excavation and conservation, XRF testing , and photographing of finds.
I am continuously working toward my goal of attending a master's program in conservation and adding new skills that could be beneficial to the conservation firm I am currently working with.
I am an artist and small business owner with 20 years of photography experience and have owned my own successful small tattoo business in Denver, Colorado since 2009.
My artwork includes photography, jewelry making, digital art, marketing design, and tattoos.
I hold an Associate of Science degree in Photography, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Digital Art and Design, and an undergraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage.
